Today's Frugal Tip

I can’t speak for anyone but myself here, but I almost always serve some sort of starch dish with my meals. Whether it be egg noodles, pasta, potatoes or rice.

A big time and money-saver for our family is making a huge pot of rice. After serving it with that evening’s meal, I take the leftovers and bag them individually into dinner-sized servings and put in the freezer for a future meal.

If you take it out of the freezer the night before you’ll be serving it and put it in the refrigerator it will be thawed out by the time you are ready to use it. Then you can just dump the contents into a serving bowl and heat it up for a minute or so in the microwave. To prevent it from drying out, I always put a damp paper towel on top of the rice to help lock the moisture in when I am reheating it in the microwave.

Halloween

Halloween

(This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy here.)

I don’t know how it is where you live, but around here people seem to go all out decorating for Halloween. From Giant webs and spiders attached to the front of their house, to fogging machines and lifelike cemeteries in their front yard. Sometimes I think these people are set decorators for stage and film because that’s how fantastic some of the creativity is!

I go as far as a decorated pumpkin on my front stoop – you can call me a scrooge, but I can only imagine the expense that goes into some of this, and frankly, my money is already spent before it even lands in my bank account.

I’ve written to you about Swag Bucks before, but this really is a great way to earn bucks that you can use for things you need or frivolous things you wouldn’t normally spend your hard-earned money on but want to snaz up the place for Halloween or perhaps buy that fantastic Halloween costume that you know your skill level couldn’t possibly make at home. Or if you have bigger plans for your Swag Bucks (thinking ahead to Christmas), then good for you!

In the meantime, I wanted to show you some of the really great costumes, props, etc., I’ve found online, if nothing else, it might help spur your imagination and give you ideas for what you want to be at the costume party you are having or hosting, or maybe even help you with ideas for your little one, or even your pet! Just click on the image to take you to their site and behold all the ideas all in one place! The pet costumes really crack me up!!!
