Pet-Friendly July 4th Tips

Pet-Friendly July 4th Tips

In my household, it didn’t take July 4th fireworks to make my dog anxious and scared. A severe thunderstorm would do it too. She hated all those loud noises and if she could have, she would have crawled inside of me to hide from it all until the noise went away. I didn’t know at the time that there were things I could try to help calm her down and ease her mind and body.

According to many sources, one of them being the American Kennel Club, the July 4th celebration contributes to an increase in the number of pets that end up missing. When I read this article I realized that my rescue may very well be the result of a panic-stricken dog – I adopted her on July 5th from a kill shelter. The man that turned her in there said he found her running around his property with his 5 dogs, and he just couldn’t keep her (his loss, my gain). Anyway, I really don’t know how long that had her at the shelter, but since I know her personality and how badly loud noises frighten her, I realize that she may be one of those dogs that runs away during the July 4th celebration.

If you have pets, consider their anxiety, and consider these very helpful tips from the American Kennel Club.
